Outwear

Our (car) coat is designed to give your customers a variable outerwear option that balances style and practicality. It’s the ideal crossover between a formal and informal coat, earable in every season for all your everyday adventures.
The coat has a relaxed fit, an optional detachable liner filled with sustainable down, and (of course) a range of customisable design options. In addition to our existing outerwear fabrics, we’ve also added water-repellent and wind-resistant, sweat-wicking Olmetex fabrics. The optional detachable liner is insulated with 100% recycled ‘down’ made from used plastic bottles, but with all the same favourable features as real down feathers.

History

The (car) coat came into existence in the early 1900s – at
the same time that the use of cars was spreading. Cars at
that time commonly had an open roof, and drivers needed
a practical garment that would keep them warm and dry
during their ride, without sacrificing their behind-thewheel
style.
These early (car) coats tended to be longer than today’s
version, made from heavy fabrics like tweed and fur. For
summer, there were cotton and linen versions to protect
the wearer from the dusty roads. Today’s take is typically
shorter, and with more durable, lighter weight modern
(often technical) fabrics. The slight A-line cut and wide
cuffs of the original have also been refined into a straight
fit with more tailored sleeves, and still keeping the
garment’s freedom of movement. In its earliest days,
the (car) coat was a status symbol – if you owned a (car)
coat, you must own (or know someone who owned) a car.
It’s this balance of practicality and chic association that
made the (car) coat increasingly popular over the years.
Today, it’s still your versatile coat to do everything you
need to do in comfort, but with class.

MAKE

The Make
To have a (car) coat available in all the different fabrics,
and at the same time keep a less formal and natural look
and feel, we choose to offer an unconstructed make only.
The unconstructed make in the (car) coat, is
unconstructed in every way, without any canvas or fusing
at the shoulder or chest. The result is a very light and
comfortable coat, with a more casual and relaxed look.
Detachable Liner
A detachable liner lets you contend with even the most
variable weather conditions, keeping your coat ready at
all times despite the changing seasons. We designed
our high-tech version with fabrics from Olmetex and
sustainable ‘down’ from Thermore.
The outer shell is made from a breathable, water-resistant
fabric. Inside, a padding made of recycled plastic ‘down’
made by Italian insulation specialist Thermore keeps
you warm. Each garment repurposes up to 10 previously
used PET bottles, keeping them out of the waste cycle.
This (non-toxic) plastic is feathered and treated to prevent
clumping, forming a soft and springy texture with all the
same feature of real down feathers. No animal products
needed.

The (car) coat is available in our full range of outerwear
fabrics, including technical and woollen fabrics.

Fabrics

While colour, design, construction and style are all crucial
things to consider when choosing a new (car) coat, fabric
is arguably the single most important element. The fabric
will affect both function and aesthetics.
The (car) coat is available in any of the 365 or Seasonal
fabrics and linings available for our entire outerwear collection.

In addition, technical fabrics from Italian outerwear specialist
Olmetex were introduced especially for the (car) coat. Each
material has its own advantages.

In many cases, different materials are blended together
to combine these benefits.
